First-Home Buyers in South Australia
Your first home is closer than you think. Between government grants, stamp duty concessions, and the right lender, there is more help available than most people realise. We guide you through every step — in English, Hindi, or Punjabi.
First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) — $15,000
The South Australian Government offers a $15,000 grant to eligible first home buyers who are purchasing or building a new home. This is a cash grant that can go directly towards your deposit or upfront costs.
Eligible Properties
- Brand new homes (house and land packages)
- Off-the-plan apartments
- Substantially renovated homes
- Property value up to $650,000
Not Eligible
- Established (second-hand) homes
- Properties over $650,000
- If you or your partner have previously owned property
- Investment properties (must be owner-occupied)
We Handle the Application
You do not need to apply for the FHOG separately. We include it as part of your home loan application, so it is one less thing to worry about.
Stamp Duty Concessions for First Home Buyers
Stamp duty is one of the biggest upfront costs when buying a home. In South Australia, first home buyers may be eligible for significant concessions or even a full exemption depending on the property type and value.
What Could You Save?
New homes:
Full stamp duty exemption may apply for eligible new builds up to a certain value threshold. This can save you thousands.
Established homes:
Partial concessions may be available depending on the property value. We calculate exactly what applies to your purchase.

How Much Deposit Do You Need?
The short answer: less than most people think
Minimum Deposit
With the First Home Guarantee, eligible buyers can purchase with just 5% deposit and no LMI. The government guarantees up to 15% of the property value.
Common Starting Point
Many first home buyers start with 10%. LMI applies but is manageable, and some lenders offer lower LMI premiums. Professional LMI waivers may be available.
No LMI Required
With 20% deposit, you avoid LMI entirely and typically access the best interest rates. This is the ideal target, but not essential to get started.
